Concept of Emotional Regulation

The concept of emotional regulation is being able to keep your composure in the face of stress and have the tools to bring yourself back to center when necessary.

Throughout each day we have hundreds of decision points and each choice we make affects our future. If someone says something we consider hurtful, cuts us off or we feel pressure, we have a choice of how we react.

We can re-train our reactions and behaviors by catching ourselves at these decision points when we don’t like our reactions. Using our own self talk, we can re-train our brains to react in a way that will help us stay positive, engaged and motivated.

Your brain is so powerful, use it to help you rather than bring you down. It is a process, it won’t happen overnight but don’t give up, each moment is a chance to learn and grow. Don’t accept living in a state of fight or flight!
